The key to successful matcha making is the chasen; this handcrafted white bamboo whisk done in the Yabunouchi style by Komakichi Kubo and his family has thicker springy tines which create a smooth, frothy brew and pleasing aroma. Made in Takayama, Nara, Japan.

  • Each time before using soak the tines in warm water for 5 minutes to soften the tips. Hand wash with warm water, only rinsing in water and avoid detergents. Use chasen-tate to maintain shape while drying.
